DO YOU WANT TO KNOW GOD? If you want to know who God is, look at Jesus. So, we must start with faith. The first step in knowing God better is to know Jesus Christ, who was sent from God. John 6:38 Once we are born again by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can truly begin to learn about God, His character, and His will. John 6:38
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.
“I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.
No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.
but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth?
For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.
Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second.
Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.
For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.”
And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”
even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”
